Vitamin D is a substance that is essential for our body to work properly. It is a liposoluble vitamin and the form that is most important in human beings is cholecalciferol or vitamin D3. The main sources of vitamin D are the production, through the skin, when we are in the sunlight and by eating foods rich in vitamin D or taking supplements.
Vitamin D is essential for the proper use of calcium and for the proper functioning of many tissues.
There are two types of vitamin D: vitamin D3, called cholecalciferol that comes from animals, and vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol, that comes from vegetables. Vitamin D3 is the most effective form. Unlike many other vitamins, vitamin D can be hard to come by from food since it isn’t found naturally in many food products. The concentration of vitamin D in supplements and food is expressed in international units (IU). The following are some foods that have the most vitamin D per 100 gr.:
| Food | Amount of D3 |
| Eels | 932 UI/100 gr |
| Catfish | 425 UI/100 gr |
| Wild Salmon | 360 UI/100 gr |
| Mackerel | 345 UI/100 gr |
| Sardines | 250 UI/ |
| Canned tuna fish | 200 UI/100 gr |
| Egg yolk | 20 UI |
| Cod liver oil | 1600 UI |
| Mushrooms | 154 UI/ 100gr |
We can improve our intake of vitamin D in three ways: 1. By increasing our exposure to sunlight, sitting in the sun or engaging in outdoor activities at least 3 or 4 times a week, exposing as much skin as possible to the sunlight without using sunscreen. In this case, caution is also advisable given the adverse effects that sunlight can have for our skin. 2. Increasing our intake of foods rich in vitamin D, such as red salmon, mackerel, eels, catfish, etc. 3. By taking supplements that contain vitamin D3 or D2.

You can take Magalex® in the case of either one. There are studies that show the benefits of taking as a supplementary treatment in the case of patients with high blood pressure and/or diabetes to help keep both illnesses under control.
A magnesium deficiency can cause weakness and muscle pain. People with magnesium deficiencies often get muscle cramps. These happen frequently in the case of people who engage in sports because magnesium is a very important element for muscle movement. As part of a number of enzymatic reactions, both for metabolizing food and transforming complex nutrients in elemental units into energy molecules and the synthesis of many organic products, magnesium is a mineral that is basic for sports people. It is essential for relaxation of the muscles and for the heart to work properly.
It is important to know magnesium content is not related to how much is taken in; that depends on the type of magnesium. For example, if a product says it provides 500 mg of magnesium, that is magnesium oxide of which only 4% is absorbed. In the case of magnesium citrate, close to 50% may be absorbed, therefore magnesium citrate provides more magnesium in each capsule.
The levels of magnesium in the blood do not reflect the magnesium content of our bodies since the blood only accounts for 0.3% of all the magnesium present in our system. A magnesium deficiency can be spotted based on the symptoms. If you have a diet that is low in magnesium or you have a condition that predispose you to a magnesium deficiency –such as diabetes, old age, alcoholism, use of diuretics– or you suffer from joint pain, weariness, fatigue, stress, headaches, cramps and/or insomnia, you should take magnesium.
The main source of magnesium are the foods we eat; nevertheless, it is important to point out that the foods that contain the most magnesium are not necessarily part of our usual daily diet, such as almonds, walnuts, green vegetables, beans and the like. In addition, there are other factors that inhibit absorption, such as cooking food, certain medications, drinking alcohol; old age also leads to decreased absorption of nutrients, magnesium among them.
Magalex® is for people 12 years old or more.
One or two capsules every day. In the case of two, take one in the morning and one in the evening.
At any pharmacy in the country. It is only available in Venezuela.
Not all magnesium products are the same. Magnesium citrate is the form of magnesium that is best absorbed. Magnesium citrate provides more magnesium and, thus, is more effective. In shops you can also find magnesium chloride, which provides very little magnesium and without any indication of concentration; this would have to be taken several times a day to achieve the best results. In the case of magnesium oxide, it would provide 4%, in other words much less the magnesium citrate.
There are different forms of magnesium for sale, but not all are the same. Magnesium citrate (622.28 mg) is the form of magnesium that is best absorbed, the level being approximately 45% to 50%. Magnesium citrate provides the largest amount of magnesium, for greater effectiveness. In the case of magnesium oxide (400 to 500 mg), only 4% is absorbed, in other words much less than in the case of magnesium citrate. Out of every 500 mg of magnesium oxide your body will only be able to use 12 mg, whereas with Magalex® your body will take in much more, up to 45 mg. of magnesium per dose.
No, the ingredients do not include anything containing gluten, nor does it contain any flours made of wheat, barley, rye or oats.
Magalex® is a food supplement. We often have a magnesium deficiency because it isn’t part of our daily diet, but we are not aware of it. Our recommendation is to take it for at least three months in a row. After that, stop for a while and take it again when symptoms return, if they do. Many patients cannot stop taking it because the symptoms return immediately.
